Teaching Philosophy
I believe that every one of my students, no matter the ability level, has the right to learn and be physically active. It is my strong desire to provide a warm, caring, comfortable, and enthusiastic environment to foster student learning and enhance success. As a professional, it is my goal to not “talk the talk”, but also “walk the walk” and lead by example. I believe that if I am a positive role model in all aspects of my teaching, my students will be encouraged to take challenges, work hard, and most importantly, have fun; which will lead to success. The second my students enter the class, my desire is for each of them to feel welcomed, appreciated, and accepted within their physical abilities in my class. I want each student to know that they each bring their own unique abilities to class and that they are embraced and valued. I strive to treat all my students equally and hold each student accountable to his/her behavior.
I believe in focusing on teaching age appropriate practices in a least restrictive environment that includes all students. For that reason, I focus on not only offering traditional team sports, but also individual sports, cooperative, outdoor, experiential, innovative, and fitness-related activities. While my students are in class, I offer activities that engage the students in as much cardiovascular fitness as possible for the longest time possible. It is also my goal to educate my students about the importance of physical activity in order to promote lifelong physical fitness, health, and recreation. I want my students to take away from class, the importance of physical activity being a lifestyle.

“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”
