As an Expedition leader (sherpa), my co-leader and I were responsible for leading 9-10 college age students on a 12 day hiking or canoeing trip in the Adirondacks in upstate NY. While on trip, responsibilities included leading group initiatives/team-building games and caring for the well-being and safety of the students while in the back-country. We were also responsible for teaching the "Leave No Trace" principle and teaching the different skills related to camping, backpacking, and canoeing.

As a Discovery Instructor I was responsible for teaching a curriculum that used adventure learning and a supportive Christian community to promote spiritual growth, personal discovery, character formation, and an appreciation of the natural environment, similar to that of Project Adventure. The class met twice a week throughout the quad (half semester). I was also responsible for working with four Teacher Assistants (TAs). TAs are Gordon College students who have either completed a College Expedition or taken the Discovery course. I worked with the TAs in providing learning opportunities for them to grow in their leadership capabilities, provided feedback to TAs, and met weekly to plan and prepare for class.
